The readings for this Sunday are filled with ideas and suggestions of all sorts. It is a call … the time in the church year has come… It is calling us to review our past year as a Christian. With Advent just a few weeks away, an inventory might be a good thing for us to be doing in our spiritual life. Where do we stand in our relationship to God? Where do I feel that God sees me? We make time for so many other things. Can we make some time for God? What have I done when turmoil, doubt, death, or great change has touched my life? Do I panic or do I rely on God?
A friend has introduced me to a new image of recalling God in my daily life. A simple word… a few minutes to reflect…will center us again on WHO is in charge and here for us. Just say or think : FROG= Fully Rely On God ! FROM would not work because that would be Fully Rely on Myself!
As we approach the season of waiting, anticipation, and starry wonder, may we learn to read the positive signs of God in our lives. Let us turn all negative signs into positive signs on our positive journey toward a new Bethlehem.
Most Loving God, Creator of us all, wrap me round with your loving assurance and presence. May I become even more aware of your presence as I examine this past year. I promise to journey into the coming season of Advent with a renewed trust in you , with a caring heart. May I show gratitude for all of my gifts and be willing to share all with others. In Jesus Name I pray… Amen.
