Reflection for Sunday, June 7, 2020

The Most Holy Trinity

First Reading:  Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9
Responsorial Psalm:  Daniel 3:52-55
Second Reading:  2 Corinthians 13:  11-13
Gospel:  John 3:16-18

 Reflection

Today’s scripture readings point to God’s great love for us.  Moses calls God merciful and compassionate, and asks God to take the people as His own.  In David, three martyrs praise God, exalting Him above all other.  St Paul, in Corinthians, tells us that the God of peace and love is with us.  And lastly, in John, God’s supreme act of love is made manifest in Jesus.  All of these readings clearly show God’s unfathomable love for us, along with His great compassion, mercy, and peace.  John 3:16 is often quoted, as it is the foundation of our salvation story.  Reflecting on God’s gift of His only begotten Son, we are prompted to ask:  What wonderous love is this?  Let us rejoice then in praise and thanksgiving, and live in God’s unbounded love.

Prayer

Dear Lord, we praise you and thank you for your unconditional love for us, the magnitude of which we can scarcely comprehend.  Help us to live our lives in gratitude, and to share your love with all that we encounter.  Keep us ever mindful of your great mercy and compassion, that we may extend it to ourselves and others.  Help us to take time in this fast-paced world, to rest in the peace of your presence, knowing that your love for the world is enduring.  We ask all of this through the most holy name of Jesus.  Amen.
