First Reading: Isaiah 2:1-5
Psalm Response: Psalm 122
Second Reading: Romans 13:11-14
Gospel: Matthew 24:37-44
Happy Advent! Advent is a time of waiting … watching … wondering. It is also a time of rejoicing!
Today’s psalm response reminds us of this as we proclaim: “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1) We are called to rejoice as we embrace anew the presence of our Lord among us!
As followers of Jesus and Francis, we are challenged to always celebrate the love of our God. We are invited to “walk in the light of the Lord” (Isaiah 2:5) by turning our energy away from destruction to that which promotes peace and growth. This is not always an easy task but is necessary as we prepare the way for the Babe of Bethlehem.
Now is the time. Are you awake and ready? What do you need to do to be prepared for Christmas?
Creator God, bless us with patience and excitement as we prepare for Christmas. Help us recognize, and celebrate, Your goodness within and around us. Gift us with wisdom and hope as we focus our energy on promoting peace in our hearts and in our world.
We ask these things in the name of Jesus, AMEN.
