Although the thermometer still says temperatures are still a little cool, it seems like the sun is feeling just a bit warmer as it streams through the windows. Could spring be on its way? The calendar says March 19 is the first day of spring but we shall see what nature says about that. What is clear is the farm is getting ready for spring planting.
We started heating the green house at the beginning of February and shortly thereafter, the first seeding began. Our green house is getting filled with plants of every variety. Every few days new seedlings are started so that they can be planted as needed in the gardens and high tunnel. There should be plenty of plants for both the gardens and for transplant sales.
We are completing our first winter with the new concrete floor in the greenhouse. Among the reasons for cementing the floor was to help to hold the heat in the structure. Our hopes were fulfilled and it seems as if we are holding the heat better and using less fuel to do so. We are pleased to say the least.
We are busy preparing for the 2020 summer CSA. We have made a few changes this year by changing some varieties of vegetables grown to a more hardy variety and by removing some less popular vegetables from our growing list. Information regarding the CSA will be available on our website and Facebook pages very soon. Watch for the big announcement that the CSA is open!
We continue to make improvements in our Farm Store. While we have very little fresh produce available at present, we still have our eggs, honey, dried herbs and herb mixes, flavored olive oils and some maple syrup from the trees at the farm. There is apple sauce and apple jelly from Doll’s Orchard.
We thank you for your continued support of the farm and ask for your prayers and support as we move into the 2020 growing season. As Earth begins to shake off the winter’s cold and return to warmer times, the farm begins to follow the lead. Together let us move into a glorious spring.
